Norwood 3070-EX Exterior Multi-slide and Pocket Door System

Enhancing Architecture/Design

The “EX” was created to blend with timeless architecture.

Insulated Glass Spacer:  Our standard spacer is a dark bronze anodized color. Other products use a silver spacer, which reflects light as a mirror and is often distracting.

Slim Vertical Lines: Our 2-1/8” wide interlockers are sleek but strong enough to handle heights up to 14’ tall.

Crisp, Linear Shapes: Our design intention is for our product to meld into the home design instead of sticking out. Our simple lines allow the door to blend and compliment rather than overpower.

Tall & Wide: Strength and beauty are demonstrated by Fleetwood’s unique ability to produce HUGE doors. For example, it is common for us to provide 6’ wide by 12’ tall panels.

Earth Friendly

One of the nice things about being earth sensitive is that you benefit too!

Longevity: All windows and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and doors last decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the world's landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste.  As well, imagine the wasted energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows and doors.

Recycled Glass: In addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all Fleetwood products, the glass we use comes from vendors who practice waste reduction by recycling remnants and glass scrap for future use. The recycling of glass uses significantly less energy than manufacturing from virgin materials, and also substantially reduces the production of carbon dioxide.

Environmentally Preferred: Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our windows and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better, our windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.

GREEN Coatings & Finishes: We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors, which are paint and anodizing.  Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do not require refinishing.   Because Fleetwood products are factory finished for life, you need only keep them clean.  Can you imagine how much toxic waste would be prevented if everyone chose aluminum? See the inside cover of our brochure for more information regarding painting and anodizing.

Fire Induced Toxic Fumes: If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum will not be emitting toxic fumes.  Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames by only windows and doors made from metal will not burn.  Also, vinyl products are petroleum based and therefore pose a great fire hazard and emit toxic fumes.  In fact, some rural communities prohibit vinyl window products. This product is not fire rated.

Remnants Recycled: Manufacturing produces waste destined for the world’s landfills. In order to combat this inefficient discarding of materials, 100% of our aluminum remnants are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors. This severely reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses 95% less energy and limits the waste stream.

Recycled Metal: Every aluminum window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches, weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. These extrusions are comprised of virgin aluminum and, on average, 40% - 50% of post consumer recycled content to provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.

Sustainable Design: Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving (recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment and leaves a small ecological footprint.

Stop VOCs From Releasing: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgas from many materials and can pollute the air in your homes. Since Fleetwood’s painted finishes are factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are safely removed. Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.

Sustainable Vs. Green: Wood windows and doors, which are prevalent in luxury homes, are commonly touted as "green" products. Although wood is technically green, don't be misled - wood is only sustainable if harvested in compliance with a sustainable forest plan. On the other hand, aluminum is an abundant and sustainably harvested resource. In fact, about 8% of the earth's crust consists of aluminum bauxite.  This bountiful supply exceeds global demands and because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material for the next century. Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite is mined in non-forested regions minimizing global environmental impact.

Superior Characteristics

The “EX” is far and away the finest aluminum sliding door on the market today. Below are just a few reasons why.

Customizing Operation: Because each panel can have its own track, you can create hundreds of custom systems such as PXXXXX, OXXXXXO, PXXP, XXXXXXX, etc. Just ask your dealer or contact Inside Sales at the factory to help you design your custom system.

High Tech Glass! On all of our doors and windows we offer thousands of glazing choices. From painted glass to decorative glass we offer any material that will fit within our glazing capacity. A great deal of interest has been directed at specialty glass such as "self cleaning" and the latest low e glazing that allows most of the light and cuts out most of the heat.

Leak Prevention? We offer numerous water performance choices and allow you to select the sill pan height to meet your project’s needs. Although many prefer the 3/4” pan height because of the “flush” feature, you can specify a deeper pan for more water performance. Tell us your requirements and we will construct the door to meet those needs.

Low Maintenance: For general applications where regular maintenance of your windows is expected, our standard anodize finishing is an excellent choice for durability purposes. However, for those who may not be able to provide as strict a regime of maintenance, we strongly recommend Edge Armor. It is a finish procedure option that involves total fabrication of your products BEFORE painting so all edges are armored with the same protective finish as the rest of the door. This significantly reduces the amount of required maintenance and extends the finish warranty to 10 years!

Security & Noise Control

Keeping your home safe should be the most important design consideration.

Fire Heat Resistance: There are window and door products designed and rated to resist the impingement of actual flames but these steel framed products are limited in function and design. Aluminum doors and windows offer great performance and style and actually help maintain wall integrity during a fire. The real enemy which often incinerates houses is heat or flying embers. Typical residential windows (wood or vinyl) are quickly damaged by heat and embers whereas our extruded aluminum retains its form at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit thereby protecting your home.

Security Benefits: Because Fleetwood endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we can provide specialty products that others should not. The best glass for high-security is “laminated glass.” It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a polyvinyl interlayer, just like your car windshield that must withstand severe impact for your safety. Unless our competitors have a roller and track system equal to Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.

Noise Control: Some homes are located in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however, exterior noises such as traffic are best if kept out. To accommodate these situations, we offer all of our products with sound abatement glazing.

Hurricane Glazing: The Norwood 3070-EX is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant glass. This specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard laminated glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile impacting at 50’ per second.

Consideration To Details

We believe “little things make a big difference” so we have included many of these in our standard door package.

Fit & Finished: We have gone to great lengths to make the appearance of this door exceptional. We provide free upgrades that other manufacturers think are a waste of money, such as: Pocket Closers, Jamb Closers, Head Closers, and Sill Closers. These “small things” complete the package.

Precision Bearing Rollers: The MAMMOTH roller comes standard with authentic precision bearings. Many doors claim precision but only Fleetwood partners with a Switzerland based manufacturer that specializes in precision bearings for other industries.

Patent Pending “Recessed Latch”: In 2005 we began a two-year design project to create a better door latching system. The hardware market choices failed to meet Fleetwood’s quality level so we needed to design our own. The net result is the Archetype latching systems. An image of this hardware is provided below but we strongly encourage you to experience it first hand.

ADA Lever: One outstanding feature of the Archetype hardware is its ability to quickly convert a standard door lock into one that meets ADA requirements. The optional ADA Lever comes in its own packet and takes only a few moments to install.

Robust Screen: So many other doors are provided with a flimsy screen.  Our standard screen is the best sliding screen door made, period!  Why?  Because we use the same parts as we do on the glass panels.

Energy Savings

True energy savings should be computed over the life of your door, not the short term “test results.” The 3070-EX was created to last a lifetime and to perform exceptionally well during that long life.

Preserving Art: Larger doors mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one of our higher performing glass systems the light is conditioned for greater comfort. Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves your comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.

Weather-stripping Balance: In window and door manufacturing there is a balance that must be maintained with the type, size and quantity of weather-stripping. Too much and the door is hard to operate; too little and the door rolls well but does not keep out water and wind effectively. The Series “EX” is perfectly balanced.

Passive Solar Energy: Because we have engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are possible. Huge glass expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome more natural light into the room. The presence of more natural light is an immediate saving on your energy bill.

Huge Glass = Savings: Because of its strength, the “EX” can be made in large sizes. Using our high performance glass, the overall energy savings from that door opening is better because the glass is more efficient than the framing.

Glare: Another added benefit to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced, allowing you to enjoy your view all the more. Our spectrally selective low e glass is a great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.

Rating/Performance Choices: In the Product section of our website we list several test results with varying types of glass, from standard insulated glass to high performance glass.

Thermal Education I: Aluminum transfers energy very easily. This has wrongly been considered a negative trait but the fact is that very little energy is lost through the frame material. Other door materials absorb heat and cold into the frame, causing that material to fail prematurely. One might say that aluminum is a more intelligent building material in that it deals with such stress in a positive way by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure as it does in vinyl and wood.

Thermal Education II: Aluminum is thermally stable in that it does not swell and shrink when the temperature or humidity levels change. The fact is that very little actual energy is lost through the frame material but in the case of wood and vinyl (expand and contract at high levels) MUCH energy is lost through the frame and vent seams.

Designed For Lifetime Performance

During the design stage we considered several important areas such as energy efficiency, hardware and aesthetics but one area was most important: We demanded that the 3070 be built to perform well for its entire life.

Tighter Interlockers: Notice how the interlockers on all Fleetwood doors “wedge” into each other? This makes a rattle free union. Cheaper models rely solely on the brush weather-stripping. This causes more noise and air infiltration because the brush wears out.

Unique Track Design: If you will take the time to study the roller track you will see a unique design. Our track is a solid aluminum base that receives a heavy gauge stainless steel insert. Cheaper designs offer an aluminum runner and a metal cap. Our track will last longer, can handle more weight and is easily replaced.

Garage Door Strength: Several customers have used the EX as a garage door. Imagine the possibilities of multiple panels coming out of a pocket. Even better, add automation!

Air Leakage: Wood and vinyl swell and shrink as the weather changes. And like an old house they can creak and groan. DO NOT be fooled by those windows and doors that tout “U-value = energy efficiency.” To understand the U-value test is to know it is a misleading rating. Were you aware that during the test all weep holes, seams, etc are sealed shut? No wonder wood and vinyl perform so well in this “test” because only material is tested and not the product. Real conditions cause expansion and contraction, which allows energy to come right through the frame. Aluminum has infinitesimal movement during weather change, which causes it to be efficient year in, and year out.

Track Finish Protection: Our door threshold design is unique in many aspects, one of which is its built in protection against damage. Notice that the stainless steel track insert sits a little higher than the aluminum sill, protecting the finish from damage caused by foot traffic and daily wear and tear. Other door manufacturers provide a different color sill to mask such damage but Fleetwood’s beauty extends all the way to the floor.

Vermin Resistant: When consideration is being made for the type of doors you want for your home, rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our 6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant.

MAMMOTH Rollers! Fleetwood maintains the industry reputation as having the best rolling doors.  To keep that prominence we have designed the Mammoth. It is a stainless steel tandem roller comprised of two 3" diameter wheels with authentic precision bearings produced by our partner in Switzerland. It is so good our competitors turned from scoffers to imitators.

Trouble-free Care

An enduring trademark of Fleetwood products is longevity and has been carefully designed into the entire product line.

One Source: The 3070-EX is most likely one of many window and door products for your home.  We offer several window and door products so your home is a Fleetwood home. This has many benefits of course, one of which is that it simplifies warranty issues. You have one source instead of many. Make sure our dealer is not only providing a complete Fleetwood package but that your products are factory glazed.

Replaceable Stainless Steel Track: Most every other door on the market cuts corners when it comes to the rollers and the track. Our doors roll on a heavy guage stainless steel insert. This optimizes operation because the convex relationship of the track fits perfectly with the concavity of the wheel. Most other manufacturers have an aluminum sill and strap on a thin cap. Like most short cuts, this cap will deform and eventually come off.

Durable Materials: The Norwood 3070-EX consists only of the highest-grade stainless steel rollers and latch assemblies. As well, we use only stainless steel fasteners to attach these components to the aluminum framing and we provide only stainless steel installation screws.

Simple Upkeep: Fleetwood has published a simple set of procedures to ensure the long life of your Fleetwood doors and windows. It is conveniently located on the Homeowners section of our website.

Colors & Sizes

Your door can be built with your choice of thousands of colors and sizes. With the “EX”, the bigger the better!

Made to Order: Every “EX” is made to order and custom sizes are encouraged.

Thousands Of Color Choices: Every “EX” is available in two stock finishes. Our Clear Anodized finish reveals the natural character of extruded aluminum and our Dark Bronze Anodize is similar to a matte black finish. We encourage custom colors and offer thousands of paint colors and a handful of earth tone custom anodized choices. Our website offers more information on colors and the difference in paint and anodizing.

How BIG? We LOVE architects and designers for many reasons. At the top of the list is their relentless challenge for Fleetwood to make products bigger. A common door panel is 6’ wide by 12’ tall but we are providing door panels as tall as 14’ and door panels as wide as 10’. Glass is usually the determining factor for size limitations but muntin bars allows us to “break up” the glass so the large sizes can be provided.
