Glacier
3300 Thermally Enhanced Sliding Glass Door
True energy savings should be computed over
the life of your door, not the short term “test results”. The Glacier was made
to last a lifetime and to perform remarkably during that long life.
Wedged Interlockers:
Notice how the interlockers on all Fleetwood doors “wedge” into each other? This
makes a rattle free union. Doors that do not will eventually leak more air.
Smart Glass: A great deal of
interest has been directed at specialty glass such as "self cleaning"
and the latest low e glazing which allows more light and less of the sun’s
heat.
Thermal Education I:
Aluminum transfers energy very easily. This has wrongly been considered a
negative trait but the fact is that very little energy is lost through the
frame material. Other materials absorb heat and cold into the frame, causing
that material to fail prematurely. One might say that aluminum is a more
intelligent window material in that it deals with such stress in a positive way
by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure as it does
in vinyl and wood.
Thermal Education II:
Aluminum is thermally stable in that it does not swell and shrink when the
temperature or humidity levels change. The fact is that very little actual
energy is lost through the frame material but in the case of wood and vinyl
(expand and contract at high levels) MUCH energy is lost through the frame and
vent seams.
Preserving Art: Larger
doors mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one of our
higher performing glass systems the light is conditioned for greater comfort.
Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves your
comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.
Glare: Another added benefit
to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced, allowing
you to enjoy your view all the more. Our spectrally selective low e glass is a
great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.
Passive Solar Energy:
Because we have engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are
possible. Huge glass expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome
more natural light into the room. The
presence of more natural light is an immediate saving on your energy bill.
Superior Energy Efficiency: The
entire frame and panels have been “thermally broken” for maximum energy
savings. This polyurethane material is a fantastic barrier against heat
and cold. The Glacier combines the advantages of aluminum with the insulation
performance of vinyl or wood.
Energy Ratings: In
the Products section of our website we list several test results with
varying types of glass, from standard insulated glass to high performance
glass.
One of the nice things about
being earth sensitive is that you benefit too!
Fire Induced Toxic Fumes:
If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not emit toxic
fumes. Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but
only windows and doors made from metal will withstand exposure in fire
conditions. Also, vinyl products are petroleum based and therefore a
great fire hazard and emit toxic fumes. In fact, some rural communities
prohibit vinyl door products for this very reason. This product is not fire
rated.
Simplified Logistics:
Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our
windows and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better,
our windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can
purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.
Inert Coatings & Finishes:
We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors: paint and
anodizing. Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do
not require refinishing. Because Fleetwood products are factory
finished for life, you need only keep them clean. Can you imagine the
reduction of VOCs if everyone chose aluminum over products requiring
refinishing? See the inside cover of our brochure for more information
regarding painting and anodizing.
Sustainable Design:
Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about
sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving
(recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment
and leaves a small ecological footprint.
Recycled Metal: Every aluminum
window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches,
weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. These extrusions
are comprised of virgin aluminum and, on average, 40% - 50% of post consumer
recycled content to provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.
Recycled Glass: In
addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all Fleetwood
products, the glass we use comes from vendors who practice waste reduction by recycling remnants and glass scrap
for future use. The recycling of glass uses significantly less energy than manufacturing from virgin materials, and also substantially
reduces the production of carbon dioxide.
Remnants Recycled:
Manufacturing often produces waste destined for the world’s landfills. However, as part of our waste minimization strategy, 100% of our
aluminum remnants are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors.
This severely reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses
95% less energy and limits the waste stream.
NO VOCs Emitted: Volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgas from many materials
and can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted finishes are
factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are safely removed.
Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.
Long Lasting:
All windows and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and
doors last decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the
world's landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste. As well, imagine the
wasted energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows
and doors.
Rainforest Preservation:
Wood windows and doors are prevalent in luxury homes but the harvesting of
their materials has a dire affect on forested regions. On the other hand,
aluminum is an abundant resource. In fact, about 8% of the earth's crust
consists of aluminum bauxite. This bountiful supply exceeds global
demands and because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material for the
next century. Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite is mined
in non-forested regions, minimizing global environmental impact.
Keeping your home safe should be the most important
design consideration.
Hurricane Glazing:
The Glacier 3300 is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant glass. This
specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard laminated
glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile impacting at 50’
per second.
Noise Control: Some homes are located
in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however, exterior
noises such as traffic are best if kept out. To accommodate these situations, we
offer all of our products with sound abatement glazing.
Security Assistance:
Because Fleetwood endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we
can provide specialty products that others should not. The best glass for
high-security is laminated glass. It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a
polyvinyl interlayer, just like your car windshield that must withstand severe
impact for your safety. Unless our competitors have an operating system equal
to Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.
We are pleased to offer the Glacier in many different
colors and sizes.
Odd Sized Panels: Some
project designs demand each door panel to be a different width. It may be part
of the architecture or it might simply be needed to line up with a necessary
support beam/pole. The Glacier, as with all Fleetwood doors, can be made this
way at no additional cost.
Numerous Color Choices: The
Glacier is available in two stock finishes. Our Clear Anodized finish reveals
the natural character of extruded aluminum and our Dark Bronze Anodize is
similar to a matte black finish. We encourage custom colors and offer thousands
of paint colors and a handful of earth tone custom anodized choices. Our
website offers more information on colors and the difference in paint and
anodizing.
Special Sizes: Every Series 3300 is made to order and custom
sizes are encouraged.
A
mark of Fleetwood products is product longevity. We offer simple ways to keep
your Glacier door working like new for decades to come.
Conservation: Fleetwood has published
a simple set of procedures to ensure the long life of your Fleetwood doors and
windows. It is readily available from the Homeowners section of our
website.
One Source: The Glacier is
most likely one of many window and door products for your home. We offer many
other products to compliment the Glacier so you have one brand only. This has
many benefits of course, one of which is that it simplifies warranty issues.
Make sure our dealer is not only providing a complete Fleetwood package but
that your products are factory glazed.
Vermin Resistant: When
consideration is being made for the type of doors you want for your home;
rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not
factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our
6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant. The 6063-T6 designates the
aluminum alloy used in our extrusions and the tempering level.
Fasteners: We provide
only stainless steel installation screws so the finished product remains
attractive despite the harshest environments. Many brands save time and money
by skimping in this area. Steel fasteners are less malleable and thus easier to
work with BUT they will rust, whereas stainless steel is resistant to
corrosion.
Threshold Longevity: Most
every other door on the market cuts corners when it comes to the rollers and
the track. Our doors roll on a heavy guage stainless steel insert. This
optimizes operation because the convex relationship of the track fits perfectly
with the concavity of the wheel. Most other manufacturers have an aluminum sill
and strap on a thin cap. Like most short cuts, this cap will deform and
eventually come off.
Rollers & Latches: The
Glacier 3300 consists only of the highest-grade stainless steel rollers and latch
assemblies. The latching system is our own Archetype Hardware, which is
made of cast stainless steel and throws a large, laminated hook. Because the
Archetype Hardware is flush to the extrusion face, the panel can bypass other
panels and not interfere with drapes or blinds.
ADA Lever: One outstanding feature of the Archetype hardware is its ability to quickly convert a standard door lock into one that meets ADA requirements. The optional ADA Lever comes in its own packet and takes only a few moments to install.
We
believe “little things make a big difference” so we have included many of these
in our standard door package.
Deluxe Screen: So many doors are
provided with a flimsy screen. Our standard screen is a heavy-duty door that
not only works great in high traffic areas but is attractive as well. Our
screens are made for the most punishing environments.
Insulated Glass Spacer: Our standard spacer is a dark bronze
anodized color. Other products use a silver spacer, which reflects light as a
mirror and is often distracting.
Precision Bearing Rollers:
The Glacier comes standard with a precision bearing roller similar to the
Mammoth Roller. The difference is that these wheels measure 1-7/8" whereas
the Mammoth wheels are 3" in diameter. Ask your dealer for more information
or contact the factory direct.
