Fleetwood
1000 Traditional Style Sliding Door
Fleetwood designs detail into each of our products because
we firmly believe that our customers will love these “minor details”.
Dressed Up: So many of our
competitors fasten their fixed panels with ugly clips and exposed fasteners.
Fleetwood has an exclusive design on our unique Sill Block. As well, our head closer really dresses up
the entire door system.
Deluxe Screen: So many doors are
provided with a flimsy screen. Our standard screen is a heavy-duty door that
not only works great in high traffic areas but attractive as well. Our screens
are made for the most punishing environments.
Insulated Glass Spacer:
Our standard spacer is a dark bronze anodized color. Other products use a
silver spacer, which reflects light as a mirror and is often distracting.
Hidden Excellence: An attractive feature of
the Series 1000 is the hidden strength of the aluminum wall thickness. Other
products have thin walls that scream “cheap” when you operate the product. With
Fleetwood you get more than you pay for. Compare full size samples before you
buy.
Hardware: The standard hardware for the Fleetwood 1000 is attractive
and functional. We provide a laminated stainless steel mortise latch that
penetrates the doorjamb. Others take
the cheaper route, which usually requires a secondary lock. The irony is that
this can appear to consumers as better, but in fact it is not. Our hardware has
successfully passed the major security tests and only one latch is needed. A
second latch looks ugly and is cumbersome.
One Brand: The
Fleetwood 1000 is most likely one of many window and door products for your
home. We offer many other products to compliment the Fleetwood so you have one
brand only. This has many benefits of course, one of which is that it
simplifies warranty issues. Make sure our dealer is not only providing a
complete Fleetwood package but that your products are factory glazed.
True energy savings should be computed over
the life of your door, not the short term “test results”.
Air Leakage Part I:
Wood and vinyl swell and shrink as the weather changes. And like an old house
they can creak and groan. DO NOT be fooled by those windows/doors that tout
“U-value = energy efficiency”. To understand the U-value test is to know that
it is a misleading rating (see Air Leakage Part II).
Air Leakage Part II:
Were you aware that during the test all weep holes, seams, etc are sealed shut?
No wonder wood and vinyl perform so well in this “test” because only material is
tested and not the product. Real conditions cause expansion and contraction,
which allows energy to come right through the frame. Aluminum has infinitesimal
movement during weather change, which causes it to be efficient year in and
year out.
Passive Solar Energy:
Because we have engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are
possible. Huge glass expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome
more natural light into the room. The
presence of more natural light is an immediate saving on your energy bill.
Saving More Money:
Larger doors mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one
of our higher performing glass systems the light is conditioned for greater
comfort. Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves
your comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.
Glare: Another added benefit
to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced, allowing
you to enjoy your view all the more. Our spectrally selective low e glass is a
great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.
Flared Interlockers:
Notice how the interlockers on all Fleetwood doors “wedge” into each other?
This makes a rattle free union. Cheaper models rely solely on the brush weather-stripping.
This causes more noise and air infiltration because the brush wears out.
NFRC Ratings: In the Products
section of our website we list several test results with varying types of
glass, from standard insulated glass to high performance glass.
Being concerned about the
world we live in should affect every person’s lifestyle. When Fleetwood is the
builder’s choice, the owners profit as well as the earth.
Abundant: Aluminum is an
abundant and sustainably harvested resource. In fact, about 8% of the earth's crust consists of
aluminum bauxite. This bountiful supply exceeds global demands and
because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material for the
next century. Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite is mined
in non-forested regions minimizing global environmental impact.
Lasts Longer: All windows and doors eventually must be
replaced BUT aluminum windows and doors last decades longer than wood and
vinyl. Consider the impact on the world's landfills with all the wood and vinyl
waste. As well, imagine the wasted energy on redundant manufacturing of
short-lived wood and vinyl windows and doors.
Glass: In addition to the high
percentage of recycled aluminum used on all Fleetwood products, the glass we
use is made of bountiful ingredients such as silica sand. Our suppliers also
melt down remnants and glass scrap for future use.
Responsible Coatings & Finishes:
We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors, which are
paint and anodizing. Both processes result in environmentally safe
products that do not require refinishing. Because Fleetwood
products are factory finished for life, you need only keep them
clean. Can you imagine how much toxic waste would be prevented if
everyone chose aluminum? See the inside cover of our brochure for more
information regarding painting and anodizing.
Stop VOCs: Volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgass from many materials and
can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted finishes are
factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are safely removed.
Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.
Safer During A Fire:
If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not emit toxic
fumes. Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but
only windows and doors made from metal will not burn. Also, vinyl
products are petroleum based and therefore a great fire hazard and emit toxic
fumes. In fact, some rural communities prohibit
vinyl door products for this very reason. This
product is not fire rated.
Remnants Recycled:
Manufacturing often produces waste destined for the world\’s landfills. In order to combat this inefficient discarding of materials, 100% of our
aluminum remnants are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors.
This severely reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses
95% less energy and limits the waste stream.
Made Of Recycled Metal: Every
aluminum window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches,
weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions. These extrusions are
comprised of virgin aluminum and, on average, 40% - 50% of post consumer
recycled content to provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.
Logistical Savings:
Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our
windows and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better,
our windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can
purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.
Perpetual Survival:
Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about
sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving
(recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment
and leaves a small ecological footprint.
Consider these options for your door.
Custom Panel Sizes:
One of the lesser-known features of the Series 1000 is the “muntin bar”. Simply
described, it is an extrusion that divides the glass. For example, some
architects like a horizontal line at certain locations on the panel to carry
through lines on the face of the building. The Series 1000 is available with
muntin bars but not intersecting. This look must be accomplished with applied
grids or internal grids.
Choices Of Color: The Series 1000
is available in two stock finishes. Our Clear Anodized finish reveals the
natural character of extruded aluminum and our Dark Bronze Anodize is similar
to a matte black finish. We encourage custom colors and offer thousands of
paint colors and a handful of earth tone custom anodized choices. Our website
offers more information on colors and the difference in paint and anodizing.
Special Sizes: Every Series
1000 is made to order and custom sizes are encouraged. With Fleetwood, you are
not paying exorbitant charges for special sizes.
A
trademark of every Fleetwood product is durability.
Vermin Resistant: When
consideration is being made for the type of doors you want for your home,
rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not
factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our
6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant. The 6063-T6 designates the
aluminum alloy used in our extrusions and the tempering level.
Fasteners: We provide only
stainless steel installation screws so the finished product remains attractive
despite the harshest environments. Many brands save time and money by skimping
in this area. Steel fasteners are less malleable and thus easier to work with
BUT they will rust, whereas stainless steel is resistant to corrosion.
Maintainable: Unfortunately
everything needs to be maintained. Some things are difficult and therefore
costly to maintain. Still others are designed
to allow easy maintenance and to be cost effective. The Fleetwood 1000 falls into the latter category. This door was
made to last a lifetime, which is still another reason to pay the extra for a
Fleetwood. We have simple yet thorough
maintenance instructions available. You
can review these at FleetwoodUSA.com or call (800) 736-7363 and request a copy
to be faxed or mailed to you.
Extended Warranty: For
general applications where regular maintenance of your doors is expected, our
standard anodize finishing is an excellent choice for durability purposes. However, for those who may not be able to
provide as strict a regime of maintenance, we strongly recommend Edge
Armor. It is a finish procedure option
that involves total fabrication of your products BEFORE painting so all edges
are armored with the same protective finish as the rest of the window. This significantly reduces the amount of
required maintenance and extends the finish warranty to 10 years!
Stainless Steel Track: Most
every other door on the market cuts corners when it comes to the rollers and
the track. Our doors roll on a heavy gauge stainless steel insert
instead of a track cover. This optimizes operation because the convex
relationship of the track fits perfectly with the concavity of the wheel. Most
other manufacturers have an aluminum sill and strap on a thin cap. Like most
short cuts, this cap will deform and eventually come off.
Keeping your home safe should be the primary
objective when considering windows and doors.
Security: Because Fleetwood
endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we can provide
specialty products that others should not. The best glass for high-security is
laminated glass. It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a polyvinyl
interlayer, just like your car windshield which that withstand severe impact
for your safety. Unless our competitors have an operating system equal to
Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.
Hurricane Glazing:
The Fleetwood 1000 is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant glass.
This specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard
laminated glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile
impacting at 50’ per second.
Noise Control: Some homes are
located in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however,
exterior noises such as traffic are best if kept out. To accommodate these
situations, we offer all of our products with sound abatement glazing.
